1. Everything which has a beginning has a cause.

2. The universe began to exist.

3. The universe had a cause of its existence.

[The most plausible being capable of being that cause - using Occam's Razor - is what we call God. I recognise this will need establishing a bit more.]

Try to stay with this cosmological argument please? We an look at other arguments elsewhere.

If you want a short and simple intro to Cosmological arguments check this:

'Why there almost certainly IS a God' by Keith Ward

Those of you who have read Richard Dawkins' 'The God Delusion' will immediately notice that Ward has inverted the title of Chapter 4 from that book: 'Why there almost certainly is no God'. Ward's book is a reply to that chapter of his book and Chapters 2 'The God Hypothesis' and 3 'Arguments for God's Existence'.

Many professional philosophers have questioned whether Dawkins has the philosophical credentials to write on the subject ...

Obviously the scientist and theologian, Alister McGrath did not fit in with the tone of the programme. Maybe, also, Dawkins does not come out of this interview looking like the only intellectual in the room? Their argument against this exceedingly simple truth, is based on two exceedingly retarded rhetorical tricks.

The first trick, is ignore the distinction between DESCRIPTION and PRESCRIPTION, and the second trick is for them to deny or refuse to have any interest in logic and it's application.

It's wonderful to watch a spirited debate, make no mistake about that....and debating is certainly not my forte. I enjoy watching and learning from the sidelines.

However, in a world where there are so many people who believe in so many different ways, wouldn't it be wise to embark on our journey toward truth with a respectful ...

When this video was posted at the FDR website all hell broke loose! [Excuse the pun.] I don't think I've ever seen such venom before. Maybe it's because he dissed Dawkins. Maybe it's because he's a philosopher so you can't merely dismiss him? Maybe it's because he takes some of the simple atheist rejections of theism and destroys them. I suspect it was all of the above. Poor fellow!

Gods are usually defined as having supernatural powers, which is logical rubbish; anything which interacts with Universe must be part of the Universe and must behave in accordance with its properties; if either of these were false there is no logical meaning to 'existence'.

Thinking about Austrian economics and the Labor Theory of Value (LTV) has led me down a path of interesting conclusions. I've held these ideas for about a year now and brought them up in conversation, and now I feel that it's time to subject them to peer review!

I don't know anything about Kant. Recently my friend casually remarked to me, "Kant claimed that although we could imagine other worlds where different laws hold true, there are some laws that would hold true for any possible ...

Hi guys!

I've just started doing hatha yoga. Hatha yoga refers to the physical aspects of yoga that we typically just call 'yoga' in America. Yoga in the more general sense incorporates a variety of disciplines, such as meditation and ethics.

I have a couple survey-like questions for the liberated minds out there:

1) Do any of you do hatha yoga?

2) Do you know of a good place to discuss hatha yoga online?

I'm particularly interested in grounding these ancient disciplines ...

One of Nick Cave's most beautiful songs is also called "Hallelujah" and in both the Cohen and the Cave song when they sing "Hallelujah" it is sort of an acknowledgement of the Higher, they stop using words and just sing the word and it's all they can do and it seems intrinsically meaningful although ...

Atheism is a pretty important defining characteristic for a person if you live in America. Dunno how significant it is psychologically, but I ENJOY being an Atheist here in the bible belt. Don't pay attention to the chapter headings, they are rough at the moment as well.

Obviously, it's not possible to assert that the red color that someone can see is seen uniformly by all. Same way, people may or may not uniformly understand the meaning of words. Moreover, we all have a freedom of speech; therefore I could use the word Jumbo-Juice when I mean to say "mouse". As a matter of fact, ...

If religious language was meant in a metaphorical way you should be able to translate the metaphor into a mere statement of fact. It would then be a sentimental way of putting general moral lessons.
