Stefan Molyneux did hundreds of excellent, insightful and helpful podcasts about psychology, economics and politics.

But there are also dozens or perhaps hundreds of podcasts that inadvertently give more insight into the troubled state Stefan and FDR are in. Below I list about a dozen of these:

-

This podcast exemplifies both Stef's grandiose claims for himself and his work and his emotional manipulation. I analyzed the conversation with the first caller here. (the first 20 minutes are about LM actully, the grandiose claims bit starts after those first 20 minutes)
http://liberatingminds.forumotion.com/freedomainradio-f26/j-p-and-stefan-molyneux-t296.htm
the podcast is here http://www.podfeed.net/episode/888+Sunday+Call+In+Show+Oct+21+2007/937084

-

in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z-fhCFkISM Stef basically tells his followers to confront their family and friends with the following proposition 'Since the state is based on violence and you support the state, do you think I should be shot if I violate a law, if I don't pay my taxes?'
People who agree with this moral theory are the ones who are enslaving you, he says in this video. And this is pretty much everybody since almost everybody thinks the state is necessary. if after a few conversations your statist friend or family member is not convinced yet and remains a statist, then he is clearly just being defensive and manipulative and a virtuous person cannot be involved with somebody like that.
So basically what Stef says here is that you either manage to convince your family and friends of atheist anarcho-capitalism or you have to ditch them.

-

One of the most characteristics elements of cults seems to be that the community (under the guidance of the leader) replaces the self in an individual's decision processes. There is less and less room for privacy and independence of thought and action, decisions and thoughts are heavily influenced by the community and the individual is taken to task for making decisions without consulting the community (usually, its leader) If you listen to this podcast, #1070, roughly the last hour of it you see something like this taking place.

-

This podcast is the one with Tom mentioned in the Globe&Mail and the Guardian articles. About the last third of it the podcast. Look for a caller with a British accent. The last 45 minutes is where Stef's manipulation starts and it is really quite staggering and chilling. http://feeds.feedburner.com/FreedomainRadioVolume4Shows898

-

Another example of emotional manipulation is podcast #1034

-

In this one Stef applies the term 'slave mentality' to refer to the psyche of people who criticise him. http://liberatingminds.forumotion.com/freedomainradio-f26/948-fdr-ers-who-criticise-stef-have-a-slave-mentality-t462.htm

-

In podcast #867 Stef claims that he has "the most successful philosophy conversation in the world [...] but when we have the most important, rigorous, deep, empowering, liberating, philosophical conversation i hink the world has ever seen [mostly because of the trechnology]" (starting at about 50:00)

-

in podcast #926 Stef declares the FDR'ers doctors, with more knowledge and insight than anybody else has had in the history of the world and he tells them to go heal the world

-

In this podcast #628 Stefan takes the decision to quit his job and start doing FDR full-time. it is a very emotional podcast and I think it is a turning point in terms of his delusions of grandeur.

-

in this podcast #759 he becomes very angry at some people on the FDR board. It is part 4 in a series on board conflicts http://www.podnova.com/channel/36098/episode/196/

-

Stef about how donations to FDR are the first step towards happiness http://liberatingminds.forumotion.com/freedomain-radio-f26/molyneux-donate-to-fdr-find-happiness-on-sale-now-t650.htm As this thread also discusses: there are also some good reasons for thinking that this is not just self-serving nonsense

-

and this guy has a good balance between seeing what is truly good about FDR and what is truly problematic (he is not on LM btw and is quite critical of LM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmILw7SiNpw&eurl=http://liberatingminds.forumotion.com/freedomainradio-f26/submitting-your-mind-freedomain-and-the-collective-t709.htm

-

this is a meditation that Stef put together and that he strongly encourages FDR'ers to listen to. In the last third of the meditation he basically tells listeners to say goodbye to their parents and to embrace their new friends at FDR. (this is somewhat exaggerated, but not buy much I think) http://freedomainradio.com/traffic_jams/fdr_meditation.mp3

Suggestions (and the url's of the podcasts) are welcome

An interesting thing I see with the podcast about Ron Paul and the politics of personal freedom is that he acts as if libertarianism will bring negative results for some people. He says we ask the world of state employees and whatnot. They must give up their jobs, pensions, and benefits, he says.

Setting aside the fact that he allows for a slave to accept a meal from his master, he fails to mention is that the opportunities for employment in a free market would make this system look entirely impotent by comparison. Instead, he acts like libertarians want to make people miserable and jobless. This is a clear example of him making libertarianism look bad.

Ugh, it's such a damn shame that he can put out such good podcasts and then pull this kind of crap to discredit them.

"in podcast #926 Stef declares the FDR'ers doctors, with more knowledge and insight than anybody else has had in the history of the world and he tells them to go heal the world"

Sounds almost like a "Spiritual Healer". Except instead of healing in the name of "God", they heal in the name of Stef.

Good post. I think there are some typos in the quoted text though.
