| Stef's latest reply is so 'under-the-top' that you'd think that even his closest followers must be scratching their heads. Very good points from Static, AnarchyInTheUk, elliswyatt (?) & FreeRadical by the way. Apt and important questions that are not easily answered. So notice Stef's technique of 'answering' them in his latest response. I am not being sarcastic when I say that I truly wonder what Stef feels like when reading the thread and then deciding to respond in this way. |

| I mean, this was the true purpose of the UPB book in a way: not to have to answer tough questions anymore. just obfuscate it all and tell people the answers are in the Jahweh-damn (there, I've said it!) book |

| I mean, David-fucking-Koresh, wasn't there something about parents refusing to answer fundamental questions and how telling that was? well then, what about Stef's behaviour when it comes to these kinds of questions? I mean, come on... |

| 'Oops, I did it again...' so Stef responds to the guy's question and objection to being grouped with (and then dismissed) a banned FDR member that shall go unnamed | Quote: | | The easiest way to get the idea is to read the UPB book, but you can also go through the intro to philosophy series... | what will he think of when the guy says that he has read the book already? |

How fucking lame. Oh, clearly he can't be bothered to answer such annoying questions, he's a DOCTOR! He's got the TRUTH, and it's his, and your, obligation, though optional (?) yet dictated by integrity, yet not binding, though...well, it's in the book and you can search through the 900+ podcats and if that's not good enough for you, then, well, you're obviosly not serious and should be banned, because he can't be bothered to engage in conversations with THOSE kinds of people.
Just answer the question already. It shows a huge lack of integrity on his part. It seems like he either can't answer it, or he's just being a jerk about it. Either way, it doesn't look good for the greatest philosopher of his generation. |

| In this thread, Stef says that he has asked Free Radical to stop posting many times. Why hasn't FR been banned? |

| In the book I'm reading right now, Rebel Code, about the open source software movement, I just got past the point where the community started to fall apart because Linus was no longer able to keep up with all of the activity that he was supposed to be coordinating. He got kinda nasty at those who demanded that he deal with stuff (instead of just blowing it off) when he was overloaded. The bottom line was that at a certain point it was bigger than anyone (even he) could handle and he didn't know how to deal with it gracefully. Finally some people he respected and trusted pretty much were able to get him to realize that he needed to delegate more or the community was going to go off on it's own and leave him alone with his failed product as a result. I think Stef is probably in a similar situation. This thing is just making more demands upon him than he can deal with, and he isn't dealing with it well. Probably most of us would react the same way if we were in a similar situation. This world of his has grown pretty big, pretty fast, and he's trying to run it all by himself. LiMi is one result. Which is sad, because there are conversations here which would really benefit from some of the minds over there, and visa-versa. We'll see where it goes. I remember reading about how systems naturally go through this state. An eastern european physicist* figured it out. (There's a phrase for it that I can't think of at the moment.) A system grows more and more unwieldy until finally it breaks down. At that point it either reorganizes itself at a higher level and continues on, or it collapses into entropy. All systems do this. It's really a bifurcation point. Stef is at that point. - NonE * Ilya Prigogne |

yeah,m that must be an awesome feeling, to have the thing you created overtake yourself, grow bigger than manageable. and it must be such a tough choice to then 'just let it go out on its own' rather than to continue to try to centrally plan and manage it. And it works, which is one of the beautiful things about the whole open-source movement

very good

but what kinds of demands are you talking about? questions about UPB etc.? a hundred new posts on the FDR board everyday? marketing FDR to the world? I mean, you wrote your prev post in response to a thread where Stef wasnt answre8ing some important questions, so I reckon it had to do with that I don't think his main problem is time or energy management. he does FDR full-time and has a little helper, that's not too bad time/energy-wise it seems to me. I do think the main problem is Stef's ego and the way he tries to keep it from being hurt
| Quote: | | Probably most of us would react the same way if we were in a similar situation. This world of his has grown pretty big, pretty fast, and he's trying to run it all by himself. |
but that last bit has more to do with the nature of his ego than with the nature of the 'product' (FDR)...

yeah. well, the good thing is that any FDR'er who wants to join or start whatever discussion he likes on LiMi is more than welcome. there have been a couple of people from FDR on LM trying to defend or stand up for Stef and I think the conversations with them were courteous and to-the-point. Just too bad they didn't stay around...

| I'm not suggesting that ego is not an issue. As I've said as well, anger is an issue. I just wanted to point out what I see as aggravating factors. Ayn Rand was pretty obnoxious as well, from what I've read and heard, but that did not stop her from doing some stuff that is of importance to our growth as human individuals and societies. And, looking at it in light of what I said above, perhaps some of the same dynamics in her life are what helped her to become so obnoxious. - NonE |

| yeah, I see. so the expanding nature of the thing perhaps is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for Stef's actions. I will say that I find it harder and harder to sympathize with Stef and his followers, and I think Dylboz' post did an excellent job in expressing my feelings as well. |
