| Azrael responded to Stef's video, and it was very excellent: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y8okV3eNm1IIt's the same idea of rising standards, that I've talked about earlier. Maybe Stef and his followers will see the light in terms of that, or maybe they won't. But be that as it may, we can still try to find things from FDR that is valuable. There is no point in rehashing things we disagree with. So I thought the 'against me' thing was really excellent. And I'm definitely going to start using that in debates. |

| so Nielsio, you learned the 'against me?' technique from the video, but would you agree with Stef that it is hypocritical to keep statists in your life, among your friends for example? |

Stef looks for ways to eject people. I look for ways to connect to people. |

| I see this video as a progression down the road to a full-fledged cult. At first, Stef advocated denouncing familial relationships if they are abusive. Then, he moved on to any "poisonous relationship" where the definition of "poisonous" has been evolving for a while. At first, it was somebody from whom you got nothing in the relationship while giving a lot of yourself in return. Then it was no positive obligation to anybody at all. Now, you are not permitted to maintain a relationship with anybody who is not a full-fledged anarchist...no statists...no Libertarians. It is a very short leap from this new position to the rule that members of FDR are not allowed to maintain relationships with non-members of FDR. Then the circle will be complete, and Stef will no longer be able to deny that he is running a cult. Get some popcorn, boys...we are witnessing first hand the downward spiral of a philosopher. |

| I do not deny that FDR is very cult-like, but what advantage(s) will Stef gain by actually creating an official cult? He appears to be closing more and more doors, narrowing his population, and dissociating from the rest of the world, but what does that gain him? |

What does anybody gain from forming a cult? Power, a sense of self worth, money, a continuation of a mental illness, etc. Who knows what his motivations are? The fact of the matter is that he expouses the continuation of some fictional conversation about freedom while preaching the exact opposite. |

| I agree with wilheldp (although I would add that I don't think Stef is in it for the money) and would reply to Mike's point 'He appears to be closing more and more doors...' by saying that Stef is unwittingly doing this and is fast reaching or hs already reached a point of no return. And I think he hadnt expected to reach this at all or in any case to reach it this early. And I don't know what his plans are now: just trying to get more and more new people in because a lot of the long-time listeneres have disappeared from the community thanks to Stef's behaviour? so that the rotation-speed can be quite fast: old people may be leaving but new people keep coming in. Or to focus especially on 'deepening' the attachment of his loyal followers and thus really descending into cultness? I don't know... it;s such a waste and shame... |
