PostSubject: Exploring Anarcho-Capitalism And Libertarianism   Wed Nov 11, 2009 3:14 pm

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new to the idea of Anarcho-Capitalism (which I will call AC for short). I have only been aware of this label for the last seven or eight months. On the other hand, I first met some Libertarians several years ago, but I don’t know if those that designated themselves as such (at that time) were using the term correctly. Perhaps that could be a discussion for a latter date as I am interested in exploring the various flavours of Libertarianism and AC, both in theory and in practice.

In order to avoid erroneous application of labels, I will just say that I am fanatically passionate about the cause of individual liberty. The championing of individual freedom is my number one focus in life. Am I a libertarian? Am I an AC? I don’t know, and perhaps I will be able to apply an appropriate term to myself down the road, but for now it is irrelevant.

I hope to elicit discussions on various topics related to this field. In addition, I am always looking for resources and materials to support my views. Some books that I have already read in this area are James Bovard’s “Terrorism and Tyranny” and Paul Craig Roberts’ “The Tyranny of Good Intentions.” In addition, I am beginning to read “Our Enemies In Blue” and “Drugs: America’s Holy War.” I have also read several articles and publications on the police, the military, the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan. Oh, and just to top it off, I have done a great deal of reading on the Israeli / Palestinian conflict and related issues.

The above pretty much summarizes the first reason for coming to Liberating Minds. The second reason can be summed up in two words: Stefan Molyneux. I would like to say more on this matter, but I like to keep things in their proper categories (if I can) and I couldn’t help but notice an entire section dedicated to FDR. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can add anything particularly new to the discussion, but I would like to share some of my own insights, questions and thoughts on this peculiar individual.

So, that’s it for now. My main interests revolve around my AC-related views and that is ultimately what I am here to discuss. However, because the whole FDR situation is relatively new to me, my first few posts will be on this particular topic.

Hi PhaseEight,

If you're interested in Anarcho-Capitalism, I recommend spending some time at the Ludwig von Mises Institute's website (http://mises.org/). They represent a good combination of both philosophical and economic approaches to the issue. Along with their blogs and articles, they also have a great collection of free video / audio courses and lectures, much of which is top-notch.

i second that recommendation. Moreover, the Mises.org forum is a heck of a lot busier than this one.

re Molyneux: you've come to the right place!

Thank you both for the advice. I wasn’t sure what libertarian multimedia resources were out there other than what I was getting on FDR. It is good to know that there are alternatives.
