What if Anakin or Luke Skywalker called in to FDR for advice from Molyneux?

Well, we'd have a slightly different story. Anakin Skywalker would have deFOOed from his mom for letting him be enslaved. But if he didn't do that, he would have later deFOOed from Obi Wan and Yoda for screwing with him.

Now, if he deFOOed there, before he becomes all twisted by the Emperor, then maybe he wouldn't have been turned to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader. But then who's going to throw the Emperor down that mine-shaft at the end of Star Wars VI? So end-game of that scenario is: the Emperor rules the universe.

But if Anakin hadn't deFOO'ed, then surely Molyneux would've went to work on Luke. I mean, surely he would have deFOO'ed from Yoda after Yoda deceived him about who Vader was. So then he never confronts the Emperor, never turns Darth Vader back to the light side of the force, and the Emperor and Vader rule the universe. But if he didn't deFOO then, wouldn't he have deFOO'ed Vader later on, maybe? So then at the final fight scene between Luke and Vader in Star Wars VI, Luke gives in to the Dark Side and kills his father (after all, he's deFOO'ed, and belives there is no good in Vader). So then he turns to the dark side of the force as Darth deFOO. (the Emperor's new apprentice). And the emperor rules the universe.

Summary: deFOOing = the Dark Side of the force rules the universe.

Conclusion: Darth Sideous (The Emperor) is really Stefan Molyneux.

Q.E.D.

[just joking, nothing real serious here...hopefully, some people find this amusing]

Amusing, yes, but I would have a different take on it.

Star Wars is in fact about deFOOing through and through. (well, except the prequels which are about nothing at all).

DeFooing 'mother culture' (see 'Ishmael' the book) in terms of leaving several layers of culture behind to find the true self (Alice Miller, etc..)

Come to think of it, the way the story is told tells us a lot. Lucas would have you think it is a 'Hero Story' ala his mythology mentor Joseph Campbell . But I think it is more and less than that.

In the beginning, Luke finds himself in a dump, an orphan, slaving away a 'normal' life with its petty excitements. Everything that happens after these initial scenes is a sort of reverie and fantasy about "What would happen if I leave?". It may or may not happen, but I would suggest it is really his fantasy due to the nature of the struggles *.

He leaves:

1. Aunt and Uncle, and 'friends'. He re-attaches to a transition figure in Obi-Wan.

2. He leaves being a wage-slave and in doing so leaves mother culture which tells him he'll be safe and content if he follows his shallow destiny (rather than his Destiny, so to speak).

3. He continues leaving things, but eventually becomes aware of a dark father figure that grows as he becomes more independent. Hmm. Why does that seem so familiar?

It is a contemplation of the promise of freedom of deFooing. The promise is that there is something greater to belong to than cheap statism and patriarchy (at all levels). But the mind plays tricks on the would-be free person. If I try to become free, won't this upset the father? The amygdala level 'thought' that understands fear of authority will always come along to challenge and rationalize away the motivation to individuate.

These tricks take the form of a fantasy about the 'evil empire' that will target him and destroy everything he will venture to love. The movies play out this fantasy as it is informed by reality. Or maybe we can just keep it simple and assume the movies are our fantasy.

Oh damn, I had a lot more to ramble about but am beat. Its a deFOO story man!
