| Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere on LiMi, but the nature of my problem is precisely what's keeping me from finding it if it has been! What am I doing wrong in using the forum "Search", that when I get the Google results and click on the link that was what I was searching to find, rather than opening that specific thread, the LiMi Index page opens every time instead? |

| I can't seem to replicate your problem. Can you walk me through the exact procedure you're using to search? Or maybe throw up a screenshot of the results and the index page you get. |

| A screen shot???? Well if I shoot the screen then how the hell do you ekspect me to read your reply? This makes no sense. I did that a few months ago and couldn't continue berating the other person 'til I went out and bought a new monitor.

| I can do a screen shot (after I first slip out and pistol whip NonE) but first I'll walk through it, with a copy/paste as it's pretty basic (I think?) On the "Portal" page there is a Google Search box. In that I typed "blank slate" -- I tried this both with and with the quote marks (as I normal use them to narrow the search with Google.com). I then get a Google Custom Search page that opens. On this specific search I got 2 hits, one of them appearing to be the thread I'm after. The entry is a hyperlink, but when I click on it, it returns me to the Index instead of that specific page. | Quote: | Liberating Minds - Portal Pinker - The Blank Slate by eye2i2 Thu Oct 23, 2008 9:24 pm » Help for parents by Waiting Thu Oct 23, 2008 6:16 pm. "Smack Sims Self. Self not impressed....." - Page 2 ... then you can check the board or contact e.g. me. But if you feel it may be better to go in with sort of a blank slate then that may be good too ... liberatingminds.forumotion.com/introduce-yourself-f17/smack-sims-self-self-not-impressed-t439-15.htm - 113k - Cached |
As an aside, I have cookies enabled here and Google CS. The link is obviously back to the Portal because it includes that in the hit (and is evidenced in the url). Also, I scanned down the Portal page and do not find that specific link/thread info/post. I don't know if it's significant, but Google CS lists it as "Cached"? I wonder if that's indicating that it was the Portal page in an older state now in cache?
Having noticed/been reminded that I had posted in the thread, I was able to go to my profile page and eventually turn up this specific page (here), so it appears to be on the site etc.
As a total aside, one thing that I dislike about Google's Custom Search (I use it, on occasion, on other sites where the built in search just sux) is that unless you think to open a second tab/window to do the search up in, when you do the search and the search page loads, you're logged out of the original site. ugh. (at least that's my experience) Is that others experience with it as well?
Thanks! |

| Nope, I don't get that. Even after I shot my screen and bought a new one. When I click on the Google results, it brings me directly to the appropriate LiMi page. |

| Weird. I appreciate you confirming that it works for you. FWIW, I use the Google CS via a bookmark on another web forum and it works fine with it. So I just tried it through that (using the bookmark link) and it worked fine! So when that worked, I went back to the Portal page and tried the same word search I posted about originally (above ie "blank slate") and it too worked correctly now-- meaning, not only did it have the 2 hit returns I listed above, but also a third one that linked back to the specific thread I was looking for all along! i2 |
