In response to the bug-eyed kitten, TWBB was very good until the main character went arbitrarily crazy. I don't understand the need for every movie to devolve into some sort of Dostoevsky-lite.

It seems to me that the Euro-Nihilism and existentialism which is persistant in many movies (TWBB, Revolver, perhaps Donnie Darko) may have ties to the rapid succession in which Christianity, liberalism and classical philosophy were undermined (in some cases virtually annihilated) at a point wherein philosophic consciousness was at an all-time high and immediately following it with an irrationalist culture suffering from the very consequence of this abandonment.
