| interesting that somebody from a cult information center said something about FDR in particular. I wonder what kind of research that person has done. I couldn't find references to FDR on their website |

--or--
Interesting that a cutly organization kettle calls a pot black? from the website [bold emphasis mine]:
| Quote: | Council of Reference
The Rev. G. F. L. Chamberlain, OSB, MA Former Master of St Benet's Hall, Oxford University
Dr. P. Cotterall Former Principal, London Theological College.
The Rev. Jonathan Edwards, MA General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Mrs. P. Harris Former Central President, Mothers Union.
Dr. D. Irwin M.A., MD, FRCPsych. Psychiatrist.
Alan Meale, MP Former Sec. of the All-Party Committee on Cults.
Brigadier D. M. Stileman, OBE Former Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod. |
Or as a friend queried me just recently: how many people within a particular cult do there have to be before the cult becomes the culture?
Interesting too, to look at that site's FAQ page section titled "What Is Mind Control" [could we subtitle it "Undue Influence"?], and ask how many parents meet the criteria list? |

| My only gripe would be the somewhat opportunistic screen shot of Molyneux. Surely that was unecessarily sensational, given the actual 'light' tone of that part of his intro video. The facts stand well enough on thier own without this kind of thing. |

| | cultinformation.org.uk wrote: | From http://www.cultinformation.org.uk/faq.html#cult:
Every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following five characteristics: 1. It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members 2. It forms an elitist totalitarian society. 3. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma. 4. It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds recruit people. 5. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society.
Are Cults Harmful?
To remain within the strict mental and social confines of a cult for even a short time can have the following disastrous effects: * Loss of choice and free will. * Diminished intellectual ability, vocabulary and sense of humour. * Reduced use of irony, abstractions and metaphors. * Reduced capacity to form flexible and intimate relationships. * Poor judgement. * Physical deterioration. * Malnutrition. * Hallucinations, panic, dissociation, guilt, identity diffusion and paranoia. * Neurotic, psychotic or suicidal tendencies.

"When you meet the friendliest people you have ever known, who introduce you to the most loving group of people you've ever encountered, and you find the leader to be the most inspired, caring, compassionate and understanding person you've ever met, and then you learn the cause of the group is something you never dared hope could be accomplished, and all of this sounds too good to be true-it probably is too good to be true! Don't give up your education, your hopes and ambitions to follow a rainbow."
Jeannie Mills Ex - member of The People's Temple, later found murdered

I don't see anyone following rainbows and dropping education per se...
I find the harmful effects mentioned a better way of determining if you're dealing with a cult. |

| SkyNewsTV is now running the video which includes an interview with Ian Haworth of the Cult Information Centre.
I've added a link at the top of this thread. |

I wouldn't call it an interview, rather the same old confirmation bias snippet they use on TV 'news' programs. |
