hey Aesthete,

welcome to LiberatingMinds! I checked LibertySpace a couple of times recently but it seemed to be quite desolate. We're still quite small too, but we are definitely growing.

Anyway, one of the odd things is that I dont know how to embed video. I'm gonna upgrade to phpbb 3 this week and perhaps it's possible then, I'll be sure to let you know.

What I like about your video was that you get to the very core of the argument in like 2 minutes, whereas others who shall remain unnamed need about 20 times as much time.

also I dont think, but I could be wrong, that I had heard the objective-subjective & pre-existing/independently existing morality argument before. Excellent work!

[edit: sorry, this was Conrad, not Zebra Foal I'll log out and log in again]

I find the best approach to a theist who believes that "without religion, we have no reason to be moral" is to just ask the guy/gal...

"Are you telling me the only reason you don't rape, steal, and murder is because you're frightened of god?"

"If the belief in god really is the only sufficient motivator for moral behavior, what do Atheists who don't rape, steal, and murder use in place of theistic belief?"

The statistical approach the guy in the video uses doesn't really matter, because the existence of at least one "moral" (in the eyes of a religious person) Atheist would be sufficient evidence that they're claim has been falsified.

---Why is buying homeless people food a moral action?---

If I were going to appeal statistically, I would look at the prison system...

"Fear of God doesn't seem to be a very sufficient motive when you look at the statics of inmates in federal prisons and contrast the percentage of theists and non-theists."

---Test---

It works if you use the [Youtube] tag along with the full URL...
It converts it to a [flash] tag, just remember to close it!
Code:

Note: "http://" is required.

----Google Video Test----

Good argument. It's short and should derail a theist immediately. Another response if they answer "yes" is: "how are you being moral if you're merely avoiding punishment? If god said it was OK to rape, steal, and murder - or if god did not make commandments against such actions - you would then commit those acts?"

Also, thanks for figuring out how to embed video into posts!
