It's a fascinating film about doing extraordinary things (but don't try it at home!).

Hah! Patience, here it is restricted to over 14 yrs- and parental guidance is required.

I was fascinated too by what happened to those people, those friendships....

maybe we can talk with a spoiler warning--- but after others have seen it--

And what a combination of whimsy and ferocity! ..and that lovely cop....

There's a preview/trailer of the film on this site which gives the general idea of what he did:

But I agree with Zeb, the other people were interesting too. Watch the whole film, if you possibly can.

"he sort of draws you into his world"

very apt description

not sure what exactly yr reference is, C-- but Philippe Petit does draw over and over both the pictorial representations of his vision, his dream--and also plans, measurements-- as if plotting a complex and vast military campaign

Man, I just don't get worked up about movies like some people. I've never been 'inspired' by any piece of film I've ever seen. Then again, that's true of fiction in general. I guess I just don't click with all that artsy business.

But didn't you somewhere recently say you liked cartoons? If ANYthing is fiction, it seems cartoons have to be near the top of that list. Am I misunderstanding you, or do you have a clarification on this?

Enjoying something isn't quite the same as being 'inspired' about it. A lot of people talk as though they'd had some sort of deep philosophical revelation from watching/reading some fictional work. That never happens to me...most of the revelations are gradual, and come in obscure technical cant, for me.

Okay so I finally saw it-- incredible film.

*Spoiler warning-

I found it really interesting how the girl in the film seemed to just go with the flow and show no bitterness when the two split up right after the wire walk. All the people in the film seem to be the types who have a healthy relationship toward accepting what they cannot change and pursuing what they can. It's also really fascinating that the other French guy seems to have enjoyed just being a part the process as much as the guy who actually went on the wire.
