No, the "N---er, n---er, n---er, n---er... LOL!" post from user "sociopat" was absolutely vichy, in response to the long post from onmyway67 above. That was no spam bot, that was her stirring the pot. It has since been deleted.

I think you have me confused with someone else, I did not use "n...er" to illustrate a point, nor did I participate in the "done" thread.

Quote:
(again, having an avatar is one thing, but saying it's you and filling in details about the pictures, and making up photo albums, etc. is another), nothing vichy had ever written here about herself or her personal life could possibly be assumed to be true.

side-bar: If anyone happens to know off hand where this disclosure is, I'd appreciate getting the link(s). I did a Google SiteSearch of LiMi of the words "vichy +avatar" but found nothing along this line explicitly (I got like 12 hits, one being the notorious 'wrench' thread).

==update==
ok, maybe it wasn't on LiMi that this was meant?
myspace "vichy" here (noting the "first-person" remarks)
compare to "Shin Sol Ki' via a Google ImageSearch...
and "our" vichy-now-gone, here? (from here).

You should be looking at the Mises.org forums, as the title of this thread suggests. Also, look at her flickr profile, if it still exists. That's where the photo album she compiled and linked to was.

yeah I don't think there should be any doubt that Vichy gave the impression of being the person pictured in her avatar and other photos. Check out dylboz's suggestions (if they're still online); and also, there are several instances of people commenting on her appearance and her replying. This may not technically be lying but it's deception by any reasonable standard, and the truly honest response would be something like "actually, you don't know what I look like because those pictures aren't me."

I suppose (propose?) that all I'm after is a bit of further examination for possible prejudicial reaction regarding what strikes me as being blame assignment? [for one possible example: if vichy wasn't on the record of most as a "wrench child-assassin" would the reactions be the same?]

I had actually, prior to his followup --well a couple of them; a couple I didn't go to, one I checked via a Scroogle hit was inactive now. The most obvious-to-potentially blatant (?) I found was the myspace one; the mises one (now, at least) is no more "deceiving" than the one(s) here on LiMi at one point or another. [on the "inactive" bit... while it's possible that is the result of having been "exposed", it's possibly just as likely it was coincidence ie vichy has the pattern of ticking some admins off strictly on pixels in the form of text presented; that, coupled with it's just a too typical pattern with forums in general-- NonEntity, here for example, here one day, gone the next? --not intended in any way to associate those two, other than for this specific matter]

Duly noting the emphasis of 'technically', I still wonder if the blame with such isn't at least mutual. It's just like with my perusal of the myspace comments; no where did they point blank say "this is me, actual pictures of myself, the poster, in the flesh" etc. The myspace title for those pages simply was "Photos" (not, photos of me/photos of what I look like). The comments can be read as simply second party observer/frivolousish "commentary". Odd? Arguably. "Deceiving!" --arguably as well, but I'm not convinced. Where's The Authoritarian Law regarding such? (cripes, where's even the protocol of such?! oh yeah, that infernal state of mind constitutioning)

For parallel, I think of the classic magician. Are they "deceivers"? Or is it that those watching want or desire to, or actually enjoy being fooled? I could also offer up Voters with Politicians here for the genuinely serious side, but we won't go there. Granted, most magicians (except for the political variety) address up front and candidly that they are 'doing' magic. But I don't know that I have a problem with one who sees a bit of naivete, using such to 'shock' that. "Tricky" is subjective?
The too typical reaction I experience with those "tricked" (by them selves even tho facilitated by another) is to lash out at the magician engineer rather than look into the proverbial mirror. It's too typically (from my experience) transference of dissatisfaction with self and punishment thereof onto someone else. [/Molyneuxing]
Again, granted, fine (subjective) lines twixt social engineering and con artistry. I'm inclined to see this as being just as likely role-playing on 'her' part. Setting up the potential for exposing the cyber-equivalent of star-struck groupie fawners.

Regardless, I argue that it cuts both ways. I know as one having taken it at "face value" that indeed, vichy was the individual (gender, age, 'race') in the avatar, I hold only myself accountable [because again, I don't hold nor take all those with animals or Shakira avatars to task]. I certainly never ASKED point blank (and easily enuff could have --but chose to assume instead?!?).

[that I didn't take the avatar individual to be "hot" being another subjective matter; I found no particular sexual or personal attraction, from either form of pixels ie avatar or text-- in this instance; but sure learned or was reminded of an important factor, for consideration in other such places and times]

(so make that chatroom a forum)

I dunno man... can't really dig it. It's better than "I'm paranoid," though.

FWIW, I find Vichy's posts interesting, and when I thought she was a Korean sexbot, I enjoyed being flirty too. I'd probably flirt with a fire hydrant though, so that means very little. What I did enjoy was the wrenches that were thrown into arguments, wrenches that were difficult to dismiss and possibly impactful....

The idea of diagnosing someone based on a few posts about taking on a false identity seems a bit preposterous to me. What are there, 1.5 million WoW users? Are they all sociopaths too? There seems to be quite a bit of latitude between being an asshole and being a sociopath when it comes to determining 'best response' to people met online. Again, fwiw, I hope Vichy continues to post. The attitude is entertaining as I remember it. But if this creature hurt people, they have my sympathy and compassion. As does he/she/it.

Nope. But as WoW users are culled from the general population there are likely going to be anywhere from 15,000 to 60,000 sociopaths among them. Same stats say that between 4 and 16 people who signed up at Liberating Minds are likely sociopathic. That's the point. Sociopaths are not exotic. They come from a cross section of society and are often highly intelligent and successful people. Generally, they don't even know they're something called 'sociopathic'. They just think the world is full of gullible and stupid people and that it's theirs to exploit. Every normal human instinct you have is vulnerable to being exploited and turned against you, including your sympathy and compassion. It's like vertigo. The rules are simply not the same. Overwhelming better judgement and jamming better instincts by cultivating your belief that that they are charming or entertaining or sympathetic, or that your objections are ridiculous, is part of the game.

I find it deeply useful knowledge, and completely fascinating from an intellectual standpoint.

Sociopathy exists upon a spectrum. This I assert, confident in my abilities to asses.

As far as Vichy goes, she (net persona is how I know this person, so regardless of the typer, the persona - just as the persona you encounter named "blackacidlizzard" - is the one I (we) know, and that persona's gender is female) has added positivity (by my subjective matrix) to nearly every message board I have been on. I have always enjoyed her input.

Well clearly there are those LiMi members who've had more in-depth interaction with the Vichy creature (I think he/she/it would approve such nomenclature), but for those of us with casual thread interaction it is perhaps not even useful to argue whether this someone is sociopathic or not. What impacts are you protecting us from onmyway67?

Please don't take my curiosity as a lack of knowledge on the subject. I merely wish to understand why you've taken the position you have. Though further edumaction is fine of course... How about you state your reasons for such a conclusion and compare them with the DSM? Also, illustrate just what kind of meaningful impact such differentiation should / might / will have on how we proceed from here.
