PostSubject: the usual fdr stuff   Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:55 pm

hi all,
i'd been sent a few thing about stefan molyneux previously and even if i couldn't see anything outstanding in his thinking and conduct I granted him a certain amount of intellectual respect based on what i'd heard from others. What really prompted me to register here was that one of my closest friends defood me. His language echoed stef's script so strongly that I can't help but think that he's obeying stef's (and ste'f inner circle's) absolute commands. I've read pretty much all of the threads here that relate to stefan molyneux's despicable conduct (both on a personal and an intellectual level) and i'd really like to post a thread discussing how best to deal with my friend's defooing. I'm more sort of left wing anarchism but another friend of mine is definitely mises-style right anarchism and he got defood at the same time! Even if i didn't post anything after this, the links you guys have provided have helped me understand a hell of a lot.
All the best,
Jacob

i should say i found this forum via danny's upb stellar criticism (i have so much respect for him after reading that, it really captures the essential problems with molyneux's theory)

Welcome Jacob

You must be a loyal friend to have gone to such efforts to understand the reasons for his defooing. It is common for followers to follow the FDR script, even when it contains obvious flaws and contradictions. It's quite astonishing to see it happen again and again.

Yes, Danny's work is excellent. I'm glad his work helped you find your way here. Have you also looked at QuestEon's articles on fdrliberated.com? QuestEon exposes and explains the complexity of the Molyneux family business.

I look forward to reading your thread. I'm sure many of us will find it helpful.

yeah questeon's work was great too, it really helped understand as did talking to someone else who was defood at the same time. Especially since when you first get defood you can't help but think 'what did i do?'

I don't think the "what did I do?" question ever really goes away.

How long ago was the defoo from you and your other friend?

hey,
thanks for your interest, i find the emotions expressed on this site so much more genuine than on the fdr boards. I don't want an echo chamber, i'm willing to accept that maybe my friend does need to defoo, at least for now - in many ways my relationship with the friend who defood was damaging and enabling and had serious problems, as he said in the defoo email, on the other hand though, we'd actually made it a lot better after consciously noticing and talking about the problems, which made the defoo extremely confusing. I think it'd be good to write the whole story in one go rather than piecemeal and I do intend to do this. It's all happened just as a load of deadlines (for psycholinguistics research) rear their ugly heads so at the moment I'm thinking that giving my friend some time and a short email of support might be the best way to deal with it.
Have you had to deal with a similar situation, patience?
thanks again for your expression of sympathy and support,
all the best,
jacob

Hello hofstadter's braids
Welcome. My son defoo'ed some time ago. It is natural and civilized to give your friend time to sort things out. It is likley the right thing to do. However, I wonder sometimes if there is a down side to that. Once your friend burrows into FDR, it might be tougher to persuade him to re-consider the life choice he is making.

I would also like to read the full story when you get around to writing it. Good luck.

I do hope your friend finds his way to happiness and you find your way to your own peace as time goes on.
