| Hey! Who asked to be outted?! I'm kidding, of course. But it is rather embarrassing because my post was really weak. Intentionally, actually. From experience, I don't think many posts on FTL are very deep, so I said what I said while disregarding that I don't think love is an axiom. In a later post, someone else said as much, I think. If anyone is interested in the topic, let's continue it here. Is value an axiom? If so, it isn't one conceptual step to get to love - love is an incredibly complex concept, relying implicitly on other complex concepts life self, property, ownership, emotion, values, etc. Also, I don't know anything about the Vasso Love Gene. |

| I don't think, offhand, that value has to be taken axiomatically. I think value can be proposed and demonstrated to be true.
I don't think of love as an incredibly complex concept. I think it is a single word used to describe what are in fact several distinctly different things.
See ye-ol-Conrad's Wittgenstein quotes on linguistics. |

| To answer the question, how's this?:
Love is happiness for which one can find an intelligent and purposeful cause.
Conversely, hate is misery for which one can find an intelligent and purposeful cause.
That's the best I can come up with.
Although, I think there may be some problems when considering masochists: they love those who cause them misery. Can it be said that misery causes them happiness? Is happiness an antonym of misery? Is misery a synonym of pain? Or are pain and pleasure separate from misery and happiness? |

| Thanks. I found my way to QuestEon's blog from FTL, and from there to here, regarding the FDR controversy.
