| The search function here on LiMi is part of the forum software, phpBB, and I have found phpBB's search functionality to perform very poorly. Conrad added a Google Site search, which you can access from the Portal. But I just found a bookmarklet that makes Google Site searching any site much easier. - Make a bookmark in your browser (it doesn't matter what the bookmark is - you'll be changing it)
- Change the destination URL of that bookmark to:
- Change the name of the bookmark to something meaningful to you; since this bookmarklet will search whatever website you are currently viewing, I called mine "GoogleSite"
That's it. When you're viewing any website, select this bookmarklet in your web browser; you will be presented with a field where you can type in what you want to search for, then the page will reload with Google's results for your query on the website you were previously viewing. The results should be identical to the Google Site search you can perform from LiMi's Portal. |

| Mike, obviously this didn't work. So I am left wondering: why would you lie about something like this Mike? Why claim that something like this works while it clearly doesn't? Why the untruth? What is to be gained from lying like this? sorry, it didnt work for me. lemme try some more though |

| Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm....I'm a compulsive liar. Did this really not work for anyone? Maybe I have a typo in there somewhere, because it works for me. When you change the URL of your bookmark to be the javascript code above, make sure there are no carriage-returns in the middle of the javascript: it should all be on one line. |

Even though I found this to work perfectly and is one of the most awesome bookmark tricks ever, I agree with everyone else and hope you immediately seek several years of therapy before posting here again. |

Do you need that for this trick? I always thought it was a matter of whether your browser understood javascript, which most current browsers do. I'm not sure about that--I'm no expert! |

| You don't need Java installed or turned on, but you do need Javascript turned on in your browser. If it still doesn't work, can you post here the exact Javascript you use in your boorkmarklet (in case there was a problem copying or pasting or retyping it) and the version of the browser you are using? [Edit] Doh! I've posted here again! Has my punishment doubled? Am I now banned from posting here for 2 lifetimes? |

| i think i turned on javascript in my browser, but when i do as told (right-click on site and then 'bookmark', then go to that bookmark and right-click and go to 'properties' and then change the url (copy-pasting your code)) all i get when i click on the link is a blank page with the word 'null'at the top left. so you tell me!
I can try on different computer though though not in coming days
(latest explorer version as far as i know) |

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I first copied and pasted Mike's line from his post into notepad, stretching out the window to ensure that I had the whole line ON one line. I copied the line from there into url box after I selected bookmark properties.... |
