Well, I saw it. Meh.
It was kind of funny. There were a few parts that elicited really big laughs (especially the last 2 minutes of the movie).
Basically the movie was an excuse to string together a bunch of their short news-story clips. They tried to make a bunch of satirical statements about American culture, but they were pretty weak. Although at one point in the movie they make fun of their attempt at satirizing American culture, so maybe it was all a joke and the entire purpose of the movie is indeed "dick humor" (literally - you'll know what I mean when you see Steven Seagal).
Also, by the way, there were 5 minutes of outtakes that I thought were hilarious.
It was a let-down, but maybe that's only because The Onion News Network videos raised the bar so high that the movie couldn't compare.
Also, strangely, the movie appeared to have a lower production value than the short Onion News Network videos. By "production value" I mean the quality of production (I think that's what the term means in Hollywood-ese). The movie seemed cheap, like it was thrown together by amateurs (and perhaps it was - I didn't check). |
